Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI)
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.
Your body is made up of water, fat, protein, carbohydrate and
various vitamins and minerals. If you have too much fat —
especially if a lot of it is at your waist — you're at higher
risk for such health problems as high blood pressure, high blood
cholesterol and diabetes. That increases your risk for heart
disease and stroke.

BMI for Children and Teens
In children and teens, body mass index is used to assess underweight, overweight, and risk for overweight. Children's body fatness changes over the years as they grow. Also, girls and boys differ in their body fatness as they mature.
